The size reduction and structural changes of talc induced by dry grinding with tumbling and planetary ball mills were investigated by means of particle size analysis, SEM observation, X-ray diffraction and TG-DTA. Size reduction of talc samples was observed to predominate in grinding using a moderate energy type tumbling ball mill.

Formation of talc fault gouge analog using high-energy ball mill

The specific surface area of talc increased from 6.1 to 365 m 2 /g, and the degree of crystallinity decreased from approximately 75% to 11%.
